  • What do you like about space: Space is the intersection of many fields that are moving towards autonomy.
  • Bio: Luke Fina received his Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering in 2021 from the University of West Florida. He is currently pursuing his PhD in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the University of Florida under the supervision of Dr. Chrispy. His research interests are in mixed-integer optimization and general autonomy for spacecraft.

Undergraduate Students

  • What do you like about space: The vastness and how much we don’t know about it, even though we keep learning more. It is awe-inspiring.
  • Bio: I am an aerospace engineering major, and my research focuses on utilizing Augmented Reality to simulate and visualize a variety of space-based applications. I am very interested in aviation, and in my free time I enjoy running, being outdoors, and spending time with friends.

  • What do you like about space: The opportunity for discovery and expansion.
  • Bio: Research interests include spacecraft dynamics (mechanical and electromagnetic actuation control, electric propulsion), mission planning, and spacecraft design.
  • What do you like about space: Space has been my main passion in life as long as I can remember. The infinite potential for discovery, innovation, and the nature of the “final frontier” truly cannot be compared to any other field for me.
  • Bio: Aerospace engineering major and wanna-be pilot/engineer with a passion for spaceflight and anything that can be strapped to a rocket and put into orbit. Loves astronomy, rocketry, everything under the umbrella of space sciences and research, painting, and my dog.
  • What do you like about space: The thing I like most about space is how much is unknown. This means there is an infinite amount to discover and learn.
  • Bio: I am an Aerospace Engineering major that has a passion for design in space and aircrafts. I am pursuing a minor in Electrical Engineering as I have a passion for circuitry and electrical design. Crafting and tinkering are my favorite things to do outside of my field. I have aspirations to become a pilot. My current research focuses on robotics in space, which combines a variety of my interests such as electronics, mechanics, and astrodynamics.
  • What do you like about space: Space has always seemed so grand, limitless, and utterly inhospitable. The challenges and the near impossibility of navigating and surviving space have always seemed so fascinating to me.
  • Bio: I’m a Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Sophomore, with my main research interest lying in Rendezvous, Proximity Operations, and Docking between satellites in orbit. As I learn more, I would love to expand my knowledge to include lunar and asteroid dynamical systems, since those are the future of the space industry. I am always looking for new and interesting topics that expand my understanding of space. Outside of the lab, I also have a passion for manufacturing, and I work as a TA for the Design and Manufacturing Lab course.

Lab Alumni

  • Xander Blunt, 2024; Current Occupation: TBD; What do you like about space: I like the mystery of space. It is vast and there is so much to learn about its mystery.
